Leagues on Africa Cup of Nations 2023 – Impact & Performance Ranking

In this article, you will find data on how football leagues impact African Championship hosted by the Ivory Coast in 2024 (AFCON 2023).

The first table contains figures related to the player representation by countries of leagues (country league systems).

The “Foreigners” column means number of footballers playing in a league outside their native country. The “Domestic” column is related to number of players playing in the domestic league of the same country as the national team represented by them.

The most representative country according to clubs on AFCON 2023 was France. The second position country was England. Most of the players from the African leagues came from the Republic of South Africa (the third position overall).

The most representative league division on AFCON 2023 was French Ligue 1, the second was South African PSL Premier Division. Turkish Süper Lig and English Premier League were classified ex aequo on the third position.

The second table clearly shows the ranking of the leagues that have the greatest impact on the results of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 and and which of them perform better.

The Ligue 1 took the 1st position. The second most influential league division was the Premier League and the third was La Liga.

• division (desktop) – the short name of the country of the league, where the club plays the games and the number presenting the league level in the country league system;
• players – number of players from the league called up to the squads on AFCON 2023
• active – percentage of players from the league participated in the matches of AFCON 2023 (regardless of the number of minutes)
• all divisions – number of players from all leagues (divisions) from the same country called up to the squads on AFCON 2023
• pts – points assigned according to the KA Algorithm (see here)
• goals – goals scored by players of league division
• Main NT – the national team when league’s players have been the most numerous
