Player representation by leagues & divisions – Copa America 2021 Statistic
Player representation by leagues & divisions on Copa America
The tables show the number of players called up for Copa America 2021 representing specific leagues and divisions (squads on the first match of the team). The first table contains figures related to the player representation by divisions (incl. lower level divisions), but the second table shows the player representation by countries of leagues (country league systems).
The “Foreigners” column means number of footballers playing outside their native country. The “Domestic” column is related to number of players playing in the league of the same country as the national team represented by them.
In a case of break in the leagues season the player is assigned to the lower league when his club will take a part in the lower division in the next season (the same is in a reverse situation when the club has been just promoted to the upper division). The reference club is the club for which the player last played a competitive match prior to the tournament.
The most representative division is the Italian Serie A and the most representative country of league is Italy. The most representative South American league is Liga de Fútbol Profesional Boliviano where all players from that league play for Bolivia National Team. The Argentina league has the most foreign players attending the Copa among CONMEBOL members.
After the team’s first match:
- Jhon Chancellor (no 4, Brescia, Serie A) and Jhon Murillo (no 15, Tondela, Portuguese Primeira Liga) from Venezuela tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and were replaced by José Manuel Velázquez (Arouca, Portuguese Primeira Liga) and Jan Carlos Hurtado (Red Bull Bragantino, Brasileirão) on 16/17 June,
- Guillermo Maripán from Chile (no 3, Monaco, Ligue1) withdrew injured and was replaced by Diego Valencia (Universidad Católica, Primera División de Chile) on 26/27 June,
- after the Brazil team’s second group stage match, defender Felipe (no 22, Club Atlético de Madrid, La Liga) withdrew injured and was replaced by Léo Ortiz (Red Bull Bragantino, Brasileirão) on 26 June, before the 4th match,
- Damián Díaz from Ecuador (no 10, Barcelona de Ecuador, Ecuadorian Serie A) had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and become replaced on 28/29 June by Carlos Gruezo (FC Augsburg, Bundesliga).
Tables count both replaced and substitute players.
