Nations Football Reputability Index

Nations Football Reputability Index (NFRI), previously known as CFRI, is a supplementary metric used to calculate the KA Leagues Rating.

The index reflects a country’s standing in global football based on recognition, reputation, prestige, and player quality. It is updated quarterly and determined at the end of each season (mid-year).

The list comprises all FIFA members and non-FIFA members that belong to continental federations/confederations, including associate members such as independent states, dependent and associated territories, or parts of a country.

This ranking is utilised in the KA system, for both the Global League Ranking and the Global Club Ranking, however its influence on the end results is minor. It’s a technical ranking, used to differentiate between leagues or clubs that have attained a similar ranking using fundamental data and inputs.

The index utilizes the ELO method similar to the FIFA Ranking to determine the rankings of national teams. The results are adjusted by Long-Term Reputation Coefficients (LTRC), which are formulated by assessing general performance in the last four proper (tournament) parts of the FIFA World Cup, continental championships and Olympic tournaments. Additionally, the host’s role in these tournaments is considered. The time period analyzed is between 12-16 years ago. Higher LTRC includes nations with players who have recently won famous individual trophies. This means that a nation’s high ranking doesn’t solely reflect the current form of its national team. To achieve a high reputation rating, a country needs both strong present match results and a good football history.

Hierarchy of Nations:

Alpha nations – 100 pts or more
Outstanding nations – 80 points and above, less than 100 points
Contributing nations – 50 pts and above, less than 80 pts
Aspirational nations – from 1 point, less than 50 points
Peripheral nations – less than 1 point
