Player representation by leagues & divisions – EURO 2020 Statistic
Player representation by leagues & divisions on EURO 2020
The tables show the number of players called up for EURO 2020 representing specific leagues and divisions (at the date of starting the tournament). The first table contains figures related to the player representation by divisions (incl. lower level divisions), but the second table shows the player representation by countries of leagues (country league systems).
The “Foreigners” column means number of footballers playing outside their native country. The “Domestic” column is related to number of players playing in the league of the same country as the national team represented by them.
In a case of break in the leagues season the player is assigned to the lower league when his club will take a part in the lower division in the next season (the same is in a reverse situation when the club has been just promoted to the upper division). The reference club is the club for which the player last played a competitive match prior to the tournament.
The most representative division is the Premier League and the most representative country of league is England. Only MLS, CSL and J1 among non-European leagues have representatives on EURO 2020.
After starting the tournament, but before the first match of the team, Jiří Pavlenka (no 23, Werder Bremen, Germany Bundesliga2) from the Czech Team withdrew injured and was replaced by Tomáš Koubek (FC Augsburg, Germany Bundesliga) on 12 June, and João Cancelo from Portugal (no 20, Manchester City, Premier League) withdrew after testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 and was replaced by Diogo Dalot (Milan, Serie A) on 13 June.
